School Trip

 We made it to the Auckland Zoo today. And what amazing pieces of writing after. So proud!

Thursday we went to the zoo and saw lots of animals. I saw a baby baboon. We saw a lion moving to eat and the other lions were sleeping under the tree. Mr John took a picture of us. - Penamusu

Arriving at Auckland Zoo everyone waited for the other bus to arrive at the zoo. When the bus finally arrived we all sat down and listened to the rules, from the zookeeper. We all got into our groups and grabbed our lunch. Then our group sat down and ate our rolls. After finishing our rolls we ran to see the animals. First animals we saw were the emu, zebras and giraffes. They were so tall. Next, we ran off to see the scary lions sleeping. The last animal we saw was the big fat elephants. - Tyrese

Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! 

"We are going to do this all day. If you can't stop your chitter-chatter!" Mrs Kereopa shouted, "Heads, shoulders, knees, toes!" She kept shouting.

Finally, we stopped talking and shut our mouths. It was only Kereru we were waiting to come, so were can start our day off at the zoo. Just then Ms Castle came in and shouted loudly, "Is everybody ready for the zoo?"

"Yes!" everybody shouted yelled.

Then we all got up and into our groups. I was in group one, and group one was the last one to explore the ginormous zoo. At last, our group was off and we were very excited looking forward to seeing all the animals in the zoo. - Loto'a

"Put your hat and shoes on," Mrs Mundy said.

We put our hat and shoes on, all except Dakora. Miss did the roll call, and gave someone from each group the name tags, to give to us, so people know who we are. We went outside and got some instructions. I was in group 2, we walked down the driveway to our bus and got on. 

"Shanell, come sit by me." Te Hanni said.

"Ok," I said back. 

We talked and talked until, Ms Kereopa said, "We need some kids to go with Ms Castle.""Ok," Matua Samuel said, "You can go you can your whole group can go!" - Shanell

Stop Bullying

 Today we all tried to wear PINK in support on Stop the Bullying.

Returning to Learning

 After the teachers learnt a few moves during Auckland Level 3 Lockdown. Every morning after the roll we get busy and warm up our brains and bodies ready to learn.

Yummy Treat

Every couple of weeks the Senior Leaders have decided that Fun Fridays need a treat with them. This week we received cupcakes and each student was able to ice their own. 

No two cupcakes were the same. We even had stars we could add to remind us of Matariki.

Getting out and About - Preparing for Every Drop Counts

We took a walk down to Hayes Stream where we are going to investigate the water quality and animal life.

Keep Healthy Posters - Post Covid

After Covid-19 Lockdown we looked into Poster to help us all keep healthy now and into the future.

We looked into what makes a good poster and a range of messages we can take from Covid-19 and use in our everyday lives.

Covid Investigation

Covid Level 2 we have over half of Tui students back at school. It has been great to see so many faces and catch-up with everyone and how each whanau survived lockdown.

We discussed many questions to help students feel safe returning to school and help them feel informed about what happened. 

What is Covid-19?

Students created a poem and acted like a lung breathing in and out.

How does Covid-19 spread?

The Students wanted to act it out: They were pretending to cough, sneeze and spit onto the ground or our hands and forgetting to clean our hands then touching someone else. (Please remember we were acting we did wash our hands thoroughly when we were finished before we actually touched someone.)

 

What does eliminating Covid-19 mean?

We had created a skit: One person cleaning away the germs (in art shirts once clean they were removed) and they became cleaners, helping to sanitize and clean the area.

Getting rid of or Remove the Germs / Virus

List the signs and symptoms of Covid-19.

We found out that not all of these were true symptoms of Covid-19.

UNO, Hide n seek, GTA - Car driving game on the PS4, Sonic Force - PS4, Colouring, Drawing, Watching TV, Races, Monopoly, Cludeo, I spy and Pandemic a Board Game - Protecting the world from viruses, you can be a medic, doctor, scientist...

Onomatopoeia - Student Work

We have been learning about Onomatopoeia through distance learning.
Through meets we have a focus of one slide each day to ensure understanding.

Here are the slides created for students to engage and add to so show what they are doing. The master now has access to the video teaching, which was added in case they needed more support.

This first one my favourite slide 9.

The second one slide 4 and 5 are great and how they used callouts.

This last one the way they have used the onomatopoeia in the story is awesome.

The beginning sentence on slide 8 models how we can start with Onomatopoeia.

What is a Life Cycle?

We are looking at Living things this term which means we need to understand what a life cycle is.

We worked out it goes around like a wheel or a tyre.

We discussed how we know what comes next and to show this we need an arrow. So people know what the life cycle is about the diagram needs a title and each stage is best with a label so people know what they are seeing. 

Summer Field Day 2020 - Touch

Mrs Mundy organised us into two teams, one in each groups so we didn't play each other. She even had to ref a couple of times, it was okay when she remembered to count the touches correctly. It was a great day and even though there was a small shower the day was hot and tiring.

Summer Field Day 2020 - Cricket

We have been training with MR Church for the last 5 weeks. We have learn a lot about catching and hitting the ball. Cricket is a team game, that means we can't leave everything up to one person, we all have to do our bit.

Welcome to 2020

We are a new bunch of lovelies. We have a new Senior Teacher Whaea Teressa for our space. We have 2 Angels to help us (TA's) Whaea Hera and Whaea Kimberly. We still have Mrs Mundy and we are in the wonderful Tui Whanau Space.

Whetu and Nick - The Quest for the Map the Kite and the Sacred Maunga.

The best part was when Nick was learning how to speak Maori. - Chad

The lady who was the wind kept teasing Nick and Whetu and it made me laugh - Janaya
I liked how Whetu only spoke Maori and couldn't speak any other language because Nick was the first person she had meet from another country. - Demitrious

It was create that our whole school and class were able to go.

Winter Sports Day

Kingston - Scoring a goal I kick it between the goalies legs I thought he was going to stop it.
Chad - I thought the rain wasn't going to stop but it did and we had a lot of fun.



Marlie - What a great day, playing other school, when can we do it again? We were meant to play last Wednesday but it was pouring from Tuesday so it was postponed, we wondered if it was going to go ahead. Iwas so happy when it did. As always Mrs Mundy took heaps of Photos. Unfortunately she didn't get any of the Soccer.

STEM - Straw Aeroplanes

Today our challenge was to make a straw plane. When we first heard this idea we thought we had to make a plane with wings and a tail and it was tricky to understand how it would fly. Then we watched the video.

I like that this strange shape truly flew. I thought it was completely made up and would fail. - Kingston

Making it from a picture was tricky because we had to guess the size of the two circles. I could see that one was smaller than the other, some people didn't notice this and their planes didn't like flying. - Tawhirimatea

Attaching the straws was easy, but making sure they were spread around the circle was tricky as I didn't want to bend the cardboard circles. - Puna

My plane didn't like flying it kept on breaking. I think my fingers ruined the cello-tape and stopped it sticking. - Iroam
