Ronald McDonald - Safety

Ronald McDonald came to our school to talk about being safe on the road.
See the pictures and our stories to match.

Today Ronald McDonald hung his red and white sock on the line, but one of his socks flew away. He did not know how to find his sock, he thought he would go in his car, but it was a sunny day so he walked. He came to a sneaky driveway he took a step back and looked and listened before he crossed the driveway. Then he came to a school, he saw a crossing, he waited for the check, clear and cross now. Then he came to a hall, Chad got the sock off his back. - Lana

Mixed Up Stories

We all started with a piece of paper and a pencil. After writing the word the teacher said, or a word from a list, e.g. people, places adjectives (describing words) or verbs, we had to roll our paper down before passing our paper to the person on our left. They then had to add a word, the pages went round in a circle until the story was finished.

Here our our stories.

The pretty and tall sister skipped in to the haunted bush because she was happy and excited.

The short fat  old sister rode a bike into KFC because she was hot and starving.

The rich cool niece ran into KFC because she was mad.

The pretty and rich nephew rode into the pool because he was hot and silly.

The pretty fast mum ran into the new McDonalds  because she was hungry and hot.

The handsome Dad ran to the house because he was happy and skinny

The cool and old nan ran in the park because it was green, she was hot and thirsty.

The cool and old Mum drove to the old KFC because she was sad and mad.

The small and cool Mum walked in to KFC because she was happy and hot.

The smelly and fat old man sprinted into the old KFC because he was hurt.

The small and fast cousin tie dyed her shorts, then went to KFC because she was happy.

The pretty and fast cousin crawled in to the Zoo because she was hurt.

The tall skinny old mum tie dyed her hair in the pools because she was scared and sad.

The handsome Mum tie dyed her t shirt in the pool because she was sad and excited.

The poor brother ran in to the haunted cave because he was old and sad.

They were great, as they helped us. We could talk about rereading and checking our stories and fixing up mistakes like, she/he.

Art Exhibition

Our School Art Exhibition took a lot of practise. We all worked very hard to produce our best work and performance.

First we can see the Junior Kapahaka practising and then in their new shirts made by the Art Group.

The Art group made the surf boards and the shirts worn by the Pasifika Group.

The Year 3 and 4's used their Fibres unit to create cloak and scarecrows

The Junior Cooking Group made Chef's outfits to go with our Fashion and Fibres topic too.

Finally the Senior Cultural Groups were last. It was great to watch them.

Art Cultural Group

The Junior School started Cultural Groups this term. We had fun in the Art Group.

We planned to created t shirt designs the Junior Pasifika and Maori Groups could wear for their performance.
We came up with 4 different tie dye options for the Pasifika Group, they then got to pick one.

We had to put rubber bands on our shirt
to create our design.
Some dyed their shirts like a rainbow,
some folded their shirt in half before dying it.

We had to wear gloves on
our hands when using the dye.

I can't wait to add dye to our shirts, hopefully it will
look like a rainbow
We used three colours and waited to see what
would happen when they mixed.

The final shirts looked really cool.

We came up with 4 different Maori designs to screen print, the Maori Cultural Group picked one.
First we had to creating our design on paper.
It was hard work trying to spread the paint evenly.
If we needed to we could wash out the paint and try again.

The NED Show

The NED Show produced by All for KIDZ, Inc., is an innovative, character education assembly. Using humor, storytelling, audience participation and amazing object lessons including yo-yo and magic tricks students learn through the adventures of NED, a character kids (and adults) can relate to. "We were honoured to have The Ned Show at our school. The show was brilliant and enjoyed by both students and staff. The playground is buzzing with NED quotes and there are a number of students who already purchased the yoyo's and are learning the many tricks that were shared." Two of our wonderful students from our whare participated in sharing their thoughts and ideas.

SPORTS

As part of our Sports programme, Counties Manukau Sports come along on Friday's to help the students develop their large ball skills.

Term 3 Week 1

Silly Sentences

We started with a who from our holidays, we add something we would like to have done or did do e.g. the movies, fishing, had a party and then added a silly where e.g. the moon, the bush, in a cave...

Our silly sentences became silly stories, much more entertaining than writing about our holiday.

I went to a party on the moon. My friend, the alien invited me. We ate and we had a food fight. - Gabriel

My Mum went to a party in the haunted house. My Mum freaked out. -Tai

I ate pizza in a haunted house. The hot dog pizza came alive, it ran away saying "You can't eat me!" - Ashton

I went to the library on the moon. I read a book about superman, his cape fell out of the book. I tried it on, I started to float off the ground. - Zavia
My dog went to a party at the haunted house. Spot walked through the cold room and he came out a monster. - Janaya

My friend went to the playground on the moon. Obe and I climbed up the ladder for the slide. I hit the botton of the slide  and flew into the air. I reached out and touched a star. It was like chocolate, so I ate it - Dayjarhn

My cat is playing rugby on the moon. Bolt told the team to run. He ran to the ball and he kicked it, he ran after the ball and he scored a try. - Pania
