What Inspires You? - Carving, Itching in Clay

What Inspires ME? is our Unit for Term 3

We are looking at what inspires us this term from visual art, carvers, painters, sculptures, to actors, musicians and food. We are finding out about why Maori’s and other cultures carved, painted, created. Who are some of our carvers, painters or more famous actors or musicians? We are even looking at how we can use science to make food.

Who will make the most interesting etching in clay? Will they try to make them look like Hoe Waka or part of a Taiaha?

  1. Last year we did clay carving but then stopped. It was really fun making cups and animals for us. Did you do anything else?

  10. Those clay carvings are inspiring! What beautiful details you have put on them! How long will they take to dry out? And will you be firing them in the kiln?

    1. Kia Orana, Thank you, we left them out to dry for a week, then the children took them home. I choose not to fire (although it would add another layer especially if we could glaze them), then if they choose not to take them home the piece can be reconstituted and used again.
